Seven Cries from the Cross: The Cry of Anguish

“My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” Matthew 27:46 (also Mark 15:34) “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” In the darkest hours of His suffering, Jesus cried out the opening words of Psalm 22. Here Jesus expressing the great agony of His heart and greater still, the agonizing separation from God the Father. Did the Father really turn way from the Son? Was Jesus truly abandoned as He bore the weight of our sin upon Himself? And what impact does this cry from the cross have on you today? Do you need to pursue help in this season?
