Memory Verse

Ask God to write this word on your heart this week:  “We love because he first loved us.” -1 John 4:19

Questions for Reflection

Take time to reflect and respond to these questions on your own in the presence of the Holy Spirit, or with trusted friends or family members:

  1. Why is love described as “grace in action?”
  2. Why do you think God calls us, as his dearly loved children, to love like Jesus?
  3. If love looks like Jesus, how can you demonstrate love to someone who does not yet know Jesus?
  4. What is so radical about the love of Jesus?
  5. What we consider radical about the life and love of Jesus, Jesus considers normal among his followers. How would your life change if you believed this to be true? How might the church change if we believed this to be true?
  6. Who loved you to Jesus? Take a moment and thank God for them. (*If you want to go the extra mile in our Mt. Everest climb of love this week, take time to send a thank you note to the person/people who loved you to Jesus).
  7. Why must our desire to love be stronger than our desire to be right in this cultural moment? How can this hope become a reality in your own life?
  8. Who is God prompting you to love who likely will not love you in return? How can you tangibly show them the love of Jesus this week?

Pray

Lord, thank you for loving us. There is no greater love than yours, for you are the definition of love. We are sorry for when we have believed anything less. Please show us so much more of your love as we seek to love others like you first loved us.
