Sermon Response Guide

Guia del Sermon en Espanol

PRIMARY SCRIPTURE:
John 10:1-10 ESV

1 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

7 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Questions for Reflection

Take time to reflect and respond to these questions on your own in the presence of the Holy Spirit, or with trusted friends or family members:

1: How did Jesus protect you this week?

2: How did Jesus provide for you this week?

3: How would you describe the abundant life Jesus came to give us?

4: From where are you most tempted to seek protection, provision, and prosperity apart from Christ?

5: Review John 10:4-5 and answer the questions that follow.

  • Who are the sheep?
  • Who do the sheep follow?
  • Why do the sheep follow?
  • Who do the sheep flee from?
  • Why do the sheep flee?
  • What do you think it means to “know” in this context?
  • How do we know our Shepherd’s voice? In other words, what can we do to help us better hear from God?
  • How are you encouraged to know our Good Shepherd goes before us?

6: Have you prayed for God to open and shut doors for you?

  • If you could see and believe Jesus is the door, how would that change the way you pray?

7: What is the primary truth God revealed to you today?

  • How will you respond?
  • Who do you know who you can encourage with the truth this week?

Pray

Lord, you are the door. It’s not about you opening doors, and certainly not about you closing doors and opening windows. You are the door. The safest place for us to be is not in the center of your will, but centered in you. We were made to be with you. Forgive us for seeking to find freedom and opportunity apart from you. Forgive us for wanting to know your vision more than your voice. You are the door. May we enter into every moment of our lives through you. You are life and life abundant.
