Sermon Response Guide

Sermon Response Guide En Español

PRIMARY SCRIPTURE: Psalm 8:1 – 9

Key Points

  • God is our all-powerful, Almighty God.
  • God’s great power is consistent with God’s good character.
  • In the Kingdom of God, those who are weak are made strong.
  • We are created by God’s power, sustained by God’s power, and sent out by God’s power.

Memory Verse

Ask God to write this word on your heart this week:

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.
Psalm 8:1 ESV

Questions for Reflection

Take time to reflect and respond to these questions on your own in the presence of the Holy Spirit, or with trusted friends or family members:

1: What does it mean to you that God is not only the Almighty God, but our Almighty God?

2: Why is it important to know God’s power is consistent with God’s character?

3: What does the infinite quantity and quality of God’s power have to do with you?

4: Where are you most desperate for God’s power in your own life?

5: Read 2 Corinthians 12:7 – 10. What do you think it means for God’s power to be “made perfect in weakness?” Why do you think this statement is immediately preceded by the promise, “my grace is sufficient for you?”

6: What has God personally created and cultivated in you that reveals God’s power?

7: How has God empowered you to create and cultivate in the lives of others?

8: Where have you noticed God at work in the world around you lately, and how is God commissioning you to join God at work in the world?

Pray

Lord, we confess that you alone are God Almighty. There is no God but you, and there is no power like yours. Teach us to acknowledge our weakness so we can embrace your holy power, and more importantly, so we can embrace you. Jesus, you made yourself nothing so we would have everything we need for living a godly life in you. Empower us to live with you so we will live like you: poured out in love for God and our neighbor.
