Revelation // The Damsel in Distress // Travis Cook

Oct 27, 2019 | Travis Cook

In every fairy tale (or fairy story as GK Chesterton calls them), there is a damsel in distress. She is trapped in a castle waiting for the dragon to be slain, the hero to persevere, and the happily ever after to start soon. In the beginning of Revelation the Church, the damsel in distress, is beset outside by tribulation (2:9), persecution (2:10), and trial. Inside, she is beleaguered by fatigue (2:4), sexual immorality (2:14), false teachings (2:15), and lukewarm faith (3:15). It is into this “dismal situation waste and wild” that John writes to encourage this imprisoned damsel that rescue is on the way.
