Sermon Response Guide

Guia del Sermon en Espanol

PRIMARY SCRIPTURE: 1 Timothy 6:17-21

17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
20 O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,” 21 for by professing it some have swerved from the faith.
Grace be with you.

Key Points

  • Here at PCBC, we share all we have.
  • The chief competitor for our hearts is our money and our possessions.
  • Only when we believe Jesus is enough will we be able to be truly rich in sacrificial kindness, extravagant generosity, and real relationships with others and with God.
  • We break free from slavery to money by treasuring Jesus – the only one willing to pay the utmost price to be our utmost treasure.
  • Don’t hope in the things God provides. Hope in the God who provides all things.
  • We don’t give because there is a need. We give because we have received.

Memory Verse

Ask God to write this word on your heart this week:

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.
-2 Corinthians 8:9 ESV

Questions for Reflection

Take time to reflect and respond to these questions on your own in the presence of the Holy Spirit, or with trusted friends or family members:

1: Why do you think “we share all we have” is one of our core values here at PCBC? In other words, why is it important and worth pursuing as a faith family?

2: How have you personally received or benefited from this core value of generosity at PCBC?

3: How are you personally and tangibly sharing all you have here at PCBC?

4: What do you think “all you have” entails? What have you received in Christ Jesus? What has God shared with you to share with others?

5: What do you treasure? What are you afraid to lose?

6: What does it mean to treasure Jesus? How can you treasure Jesus this week?

7: How is God inviting you to share all you have in this new season?

Pray

Lord, you gave everything to us when we had nothing to give to you. There is no generosity that compares to yours. Open our eyes to see the riches we have in relationship with you. Open our hearts to share the riches we have in relationship with others. Form us into a people who are quick to pour out of the love you continue to pour into us. May we come to know you as extravagantly generous, God – and from that place, may we be extravagantly generous so the world will know you, and you alone, are truly God.
