Sermon Response Guide

Guia del Sermon en Espanol

PRIMARY SCRIPTURE: Acts 1:1-8

Key Points

  • The church is an ongoing movement of God.
  • The church is active and outward-focused rather than stagnant and inward-focused.
  • The church is made up of disciples who make disciples: learners and followers of Jesus.

Memory Verse

Ask God to write this word on your heart this week:

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Acts 1:8 ESV

Questions for Reflection

Take time to reflect and respond to these questions on your own in the presence of the Holy Spirit, or with trusted friends or family members:

1: How does your understanding of church change when you think about church as an active movement of God?

2: What is the difference between attending church and participating in church? How would you describe your personal involvement in church?

3: How would you compare participating in church to participating in Christ?

4: What is the purpose of the church?

5: What is the purpose of your participation in church?

6: Who, or what, is a disciple?

7: What do you think Jesus means when he promises his disciples, “you will be my witnesses,” (Acts 1:8)? What does it mean to be Christ’s witness in this day and age?

8: Of all you have processed today, what is God most clearly pressing on your heart? How will you respond?

Pray

Lord, you have given us the gift of your Holy Spirit who empowers us to be your witnesses – nothing more and nothing less. We apologize for how we have made this life of faith about so much more and so much less. Show us who you are and teach us to behold you. As we draw near to you, stir our hearts to invite others to join us in our pursuit of you. For the glory of your name, make us disciples who make disciples.
