PCBC’s Family Ministry is strengthening families, equipping parents to make disciples of their children, and helping couples build healthier marriages.

“We want parents to really understand their God- given role in the life of their families,” said David Huey, Minister to Families. “The best moms and dads are the ones who have the best marriages, so our focus is to help parents strengthen their roles as parents and to have strong marriages. One supports the other.”

    Family Ministry programs include:

    Marriage Core

Almost 50 couples participated in this innovative, 24- week program designed to support couples in the hard work of building strong marriages. The groups meet for about 90 minutes each week in a safe, Christ-centered environment to focus on their relationships.

“Marriage Core showed me it was OK not to have a perfect marriage,” said Jeremy Mendez, who participated in the program with his wife, Emily.

"I learned to communicate with my wife in a way that she needed. I went from selfish husband to selfless husband.”

“Marriage Core has been one of the best ministries we’ve been involved with at PCBC,” Emily said. “As a Type A personality, one of the most important lessons I learned was that I can only control my own contributions to the marriage and that, ultimately, the one with the real control is God.
This course gives you a much clearer understanding of each other’s perspective. And with understanding comes empathy.”

When they first began the 24-week program, Mario and Elizabeth Alcala  thought Marriage Core wasn’t for them. They quickly changed their minds.

“Marriage Core is for every couple – a good marriage, an average marriage or an emotionally divorced marriage,” they said. “No matter what stage of life you are in, you will gain knowledge and wisdom. This is a safe environment no matter what the issue may be.”

    Flight Plan 252

As a partnership between parents and the church, Flight Plan 252 offers an age-appropriate, practical guide for the faith journey of children, beginning before birth and ending at high- school graduation. This ministry includes Sunday morning parenting seminars that equip parents to lead their children. A conference scheduled for Oct. 6-7 will feature an encouraging speaker and breakout sessions focused on parenting topics.
