PCBC Habitat for Humanity House Dedication
November 8, 2008 at 10:30am
3007 Dorris Street, Dallas, TX
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian ministry that builds quality, affordable homes in partnership with deserving families. Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity is the largest nonprofit homebuilder and the sixth largest homebuilder overall in the City of Dallas and the third largest Habitat affiliate in the United States.
The Boomer Ministry of PCBC has the unique opportunity to partner with the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity to raise funds and provide volunteers for building a new home in the fall of 2008. The goal of the fundraising is $40,000, and volunteers will be needed to contribute financially, help in the actual building of the home, provide food for volunteers on building days, etc.
Miller Cunningham, PCBC Pastor of Worship, said, "I am thrilled that the Boomers have chosen to partner with Habitat for Humanity to build a new home for a deserving family. This is a perfect opportunity to help fulfill our calling to reach out into the Dallas community and show the love of Christ to others. God will be greatly glorified through your work."
Habitat selected Cynthia Thornburg to be the homeowner of the Habitat/PCBC Build. Cynthia has three boys: Jamiel (age 21 and living on his own), Jerard (age 15), and Jarmard (age 13). Cynthia has been happily employed at Children's Hospital for the past 5 years. Her home is being constructed at 3007 Dorris in the Bon Ton area of Dallas. Work has already begun on the home, and the dedication is scheduled for Saturday, November 8. Cynthia says, "I am grateful for Habitat and Park Cities Baptist Church for this wonderful blessing. We are excited to own our own home and to be a part of a neighborhood. Building my own home will also show the boys that when you work hard your dreams can come true."
