Disaster Relief
Tornadoes. Wildfires. Hurricanes. Ice Storms. Floods. What do these events have in common? They destroy property. Sometimes they kill and injure. They devastate lives. Victims need help: physically, emotionally and spiritually. This is the role of disaster relief ministry.Through prayer, financial support and volunteer ministry, our church seeks to meet these needs in the name of Jesus. Each disaster presents many different and unique opportunities to respond. Our church has developed a Laundry/Shower Unit which serves in collaboration with the Texas Baptist Men, the disaster relief ministry of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. The TBM provides training and professional expertise as well as coordination with local, state and national disaster relief ministries and government agencies.
Laundry/Shower Unit
The PCBC Laundry/Shower Unit consists of a 28-foot trailer containing six showers, three washers and four drying machines. The self-contained unit can be set up to run from propane or electricity, depending on the circumstances and location of the disaster. The L/S unit operates in conjunction with other types of disaster relief ministries and agencies and therefore serves victims as well as those who are responding to needs. Volunteers organize and supply showers, provide laundry services and console and encourage victims as well as respondents. Time commitment varies depending on the need and the volunteer's schedule. For more information or to be included in the call-out list, please contact Stan Knight at 214-691-4458, or sknight@airmail.net.
Tree & Tree Debris Removal
Our church also has a Texas Baptist Men's (TBM) group trained for tree & tree debris removal from homes damaged by windstorms and ice accumulations. Some aspects of this service requires some specialized training while no previous experience or training is needed in other facets of this work. For more information on how you can help please contact Steve Corder @ 214 207-0306 or sdcorder@att.net
Disaster Relief Ministry can be challenging but is ultimately very rewarding. Often volunteers sleep on cots in local churches, receive sporadic meals (sometimes consisting of snacks) and, at times, work long hours. However, serving people at a time of crisis demonstrates the love of Christ, and leads to numerous opportunities to share the Good News about Him.
