C.O.M.P.A.S.S.

C.O.M.P.A.S.S. is the acronym for the information collected on each member:

Christian Experience
Only a believer can receive a spiritual gift. Therefore, the process begins by asking a candidate for ministry about his or her experience in coming to know Christ personally.

One or more gifts
Every believer has at least one God-given spiritual gift to allow them to make their unique contribution to the Kingdom. Insuring that their place in ministry uses this gift is a key focus of the equipping ministry. The Basden-Johnson Spiritual Gift Analysis is the assessment tool to be used in helping members to discover their gifts.

Maturity
Spiritual maturity is where a person is in relationship with Christ. Some positions in ministry call for a greater degree of maturity.

Passion
Passion is the desire given by God that compels them to make a difference in a particular ministry. When a person has a passion for an area of ministry, he or she is more enthusiastic and motivated to serve.

Availability
Each person’s stage and circumstances in life may affect their availability. Matching a person’s availability against the time requirements of a ministry position is key.

Skills and experiences
Life skills and experiences are often desirable if not required in certain ministries. Each person is asked to indicate areas of expertise from an inventory-type list.

Style

Personal style is God-given. Some people tend to be task oriented, while others are people oriented. Some are unstructured, while others are structured. Certain ministry positions are best suited to certain personal styles.
